What is "rank" and "rate?"
Well according to the US
Navy's Official Web Site there is
a difference between "rank" and "rate."
"Rank" refers to officers while
"rate" refers to enlisted. Often times
"rank" is associated with enlisted when describing their
pay grade. This however according to the navy web site is
incorrect. The term "rate" is a combination of pay
grade and the occupational specialty that is indicated just above
the chevrons.
